Encouraging kids to play outside
The beauty of outdoor play is that it sparks creativity, reduces stress, and promotes healthier habits. Whether it's a simple walk in the park, climbing trees, or kicking a ball around, the opportunities for active, imaginative play are endless. Plus, spending time outside nurtures a child's connection to nature, encouraging them to appreciate the environment. Yet, with the lure of gaming, YouTube videos and social media, getting kids to choose green time over screen time can be a challenge. Here are a few simple ways to promote exploring the outside and make it easier:

Lead by example
Children often mimic the behavior they see. Make outdoor activities a family affair. Take bike rides, go hiking, or explore new parks together. Your enthusiasm will inspire them to embrace the adventure. Don’t forget: children love to learn from the person that they look up to the most – you.
Create fun rituals
Turn outdoor play into a regular event by creating weekly traditions like "Park Saturdays" or "Backyard Games Night." The more fun you make it, the more they’ll look forward to it.

Limit screentime gradually
Instead of cutting out screens completely, set gentle limits. Designate "no screen" zones or times, like before school or during family meals, and encourage outdoor play during those periods.
Let them explore
Kids thrive when given the freedom to explore. Let them chase bugs, climb rocks, or invent outdoor games. The less structured, the more they learn to use their imagination.
Encouraging your child to exchange screentime for green time is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. Nature has an incredible way of grounding us—and for children, it's the perfect environment to grow, play, and discover endless wonders.
